Rare Earth Metals Corp reports winter conditions will allow Drill Program at
Eden Lake, Uranium-REE Property, Manitoba
2/9/06
Rare Earth Metals Corp., (REM - TSX.V), February 9, 2006 (the "Company") reports
that lower temperatures have allowed a winter road to be built to its Eden Lake,
Manitoba Uranium/REE property. A 13 km winter road was constructed over the past
week as over night temperatures dropped below -20 degrees Celsius in the Eden
Lake area allowing frost to penetrate the ground and create a solid road
surface.
Vice-President of Exploration, Dr. George Gale states "the warm winter in
Manitoba has created cancellations and uncertainty for many companies drilling
this winter. We are very pleased to inform our shareholders that better winter
conditions are expected and that the drill equipment is being moved on to the
property. We expect drilling to begin early next week".
The Eden Lake carbonatite complex hosts rare earth element (REE) enrichments
over an extensive area. The highest REE concentrations encountered to date are
in the carbonatite dikes with up to 1.6 % total REE, and in hydrothermal
REE-rich veins with grades up to 13.8 % total REE plus Uranium values of up to
3,490 grams (7.7 lbs) per tonne.
Up to ten targets totaling up to 1200 meters will be drill tested at locations
throughout the 8 square kilometer area where REE mineralization and Uranium
mineralization have been discovered. The mineralization being tested has been
interpreted as the carbonatite end member of an Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG)
deposit.
Due to the soft nature of the Carbonatite host rock and easily weathered
REE-Uranium bearing veins, the most prospective targets are in low lying
overburden covered areas of the property, where nearby outcrop hosts
mineralization. Previous exploration programs have used geochemical survey
methods to locate metal anomalies in soil and vegetation. These anomalies may
represent buried mineralized bodies and 10 areas have been selected as
priorities for this first drill program.
The Eden Lake claim block covers an area of approximately 28 square kilometers
and is located 35 kilometers from the mining community of Leaf Rapids, Manitoba.
The Company has an option to acquire a 100% interest in the Eden Lake Project.
