2 KM LONG HORIZON TO BE EXPLORED WITH DEEP
EM GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY SOUTHWEST OF REED LAKE DISCOVERY ZONE, SNOW LAKE, MANITOBA
January
22,
2009
Vancouver, B.C. January 22,
2009. VMS Ventures Inc. (TSX.V: VMS) (the "Company") is pleased to report a
planned deep EM geophysical program at the Company’s 100% owned Dunlop property.
During the past eighteen months
at the Reed Lake project, the Company has gained extensive geological knowledge
regarding the deposit, and the land immediately surrounding it. Activities,
including diamond drilling, geochemistry surveys, and airborne, ground and
down-hole geophysical surveys, have led to the identification of a new target
horizon that is considered highly prospective for additional base metal massive
sulphide deposits. This exploration horizon is broadly defined by a trend of
magnetic anomalies that begins at the Discovery Zone and extends approximately
two kilometers to the west-southwest on the Company’s 100% owned Dunlop
property.
Vice
President of Exploration, Dr. George Gale says:
“Collectively, these results
appear to define a geological unit related to the Discovery Zone which is
therefore prospective for hosting additional base metal massive sulphide-type
deposits, or possibly, is the larger source deposit for the Discovery Zone
mineralization discovered to date. As discussed in previous press releases the
mineralization found at the Discovery Zone is of two varieties. The “A” zone,
which appears to be a debris flow that has broken away from a yet to be
identified source, located on the same horizon as the “A” Zone, and the “B”
zone, which appears to be remobilized mineralization from what is believed to be
a nearby source.
One target of particular
interest, within the identified horizon, is located approximately 900 m
southwest of the Discovery Zone mineralization. This target has both VTEM
conductor anomalies and an associated magnetic response, which is similar to the
Discovery Zone though lower in amplitude. This EM anomaly may be the geophysical
signature of another body of sulphide mineralization related to the Discovery
Zone.” (http://www.vmsventures.com/image_pages/image026.asp)
This new target horizon will be
examined using a deep penetrating, large Loop Time Domain EM survey. A 30 line
kilometer grid is now being cut and will be completed this month. This ground
survey will employ the same DeepEM system and field personnel (Koop Geotechnical
Services) used in the 2007 discovery of HudBay Minerals Ltd’s Lalor Lake deposit
at a depth of approximately 800 m. This advanced technology will permit the
Company to assess this enlarged area of interest southwest of the Discovery Zone
to depths far below previous airborne surveys. The Discovery Zone mineralization
has been intersected down to 450 meters and is open at depth.
The Company’s geological team,
with its geophysical consultants, is reviewing VTEM results from its 2007 and
2008 airborne surveys over the Puella Bay, Copper and Sails Lake project areas.
They are also synthesizing additional data, including compiled historical
reports and, Company geological mapping and ground geochemical surveys, on
each project, Plans for winter 2009 include refurbishing grid lines,
determining, where appropriate, new ground geophysical programs should be
conducted, target selection and budgeting for each project’s initial drill
program.

VMS Ventures Inc. is focused
primarily on acquiring, exploring and developing copper-zinc properties in the
Flin Flon-Snow Lake VMS Belt. The Company also holds the largest land package
considered prospective for nickel-copper mineralization at Lynn Lake, which is
to date Canada’s third largest nickel producing camp. The Company’s project
portfolio consists of the Snow Lake VMS project, the Lynn Lake Gabbros
nickel-copper project, the Nickel Belt project, the South Bay
nickel-copper-cobalt PGE property, and the Eden Lake Carbonatite Complex,
Specialty Metals property. All VMS Ventures Inc. properties are located in the
mining friendly province of Manitoba, Canada.
